Town building as a progression system
Town building is one of the six headline features on the official listing: “A variety of town buildings offer rich functional services. Customize upgrades at will to greatly enhance building efficiency.” In practice, your settlement is effectively another progression system — the buildings you upgrade gate how strong your Godsworn can get.
Upgrading town structures opens:
- Additional crafting opportunities
- Research improvements
- Equipment options
- Access to more valuable resources
Confirmed buildings and facilities
Building names come from official patch notes and player discussion:
- Temple — has slots that sync with your Godsworn selection (patch 1.0.4), and its Inspire ability lets you attach passives to characters (e.g. the Warrior passive Thunderous Roar). This is where late-game skill passives come from.
- Prison — where you recruit exiled criminals and Bewitch them into Godsworn. Since 1.0.4, prisoners can display Mutated Skills, and your Preferred Skills now also affect Mutated Skills. Legendary and Mythic prisoners are the top-tier recruits.
- Golem — a workshop-style facility; its upgrade costs were reduced by 30% in patch 1.0.4, signalling it is a repeatable upgrade path.
- Market Orders — a trade/quest system whose bonus reward was set to 5 Abyssal Scales in patch 1.0.4 (the currency that replaced Agony Scales after the Baptism changes).
- Stele — the monument progression seen in achievements, upgradeable to Tier 20+ (Dim Stele at Tier 6, Glimmering Stele at Tier 12, Radiant Stele at Tier 20).
Why it matters
Guide writers note that town progression matters more than it looks — sometimes it is the town building that lets you create better armor later, and efficiency upgrades snowball into faster progression across gameplay modes. It works together with gear and Runewords to form the game’s long-term build loop.
