The six classes
Path of Idle: Old Gods Rising features six classes, each with an exclusive, one-of-a-kind skill system. The class names are confirmed across multiple sources (Destructoid’s tier list, AllThings. How’s ranking and player discussion):
| Class | Role | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Cleric | Support / healer | Low solo damage, but party-wide DPS buffs and sustained healing make it the most valuable team pick |
| Warrior | Melee tank / hybrid | Summons extra support units; can be built as damage, tank or hybrid |
| Mage | Ranged elemental DPS | Beginner-friendly AoE damage; fragile, needs a tank to hold aggro |
| Priest | Melee + magic | Complex, flexible builds; e.g. the Bone Chill build turns it into a strong DPS/support hybrid |
| Hunter | Ranged archer | Standard archer damage; one-dimensional compared with the Mage |
| Mercenary | (varied) | The last of the six; guide authors had not fully evaluated it at launch |
Starting classes and unlocking more
At the very start you only choose between Hunter, Warrior and Mage. The other classes enter your roster through the Prison: exiled criminals you recruit can be converted into Godsworn with the Bewitch option. Rarer prisoners matter — the 1.0.4 patch increased Legendary prisoner appearance by about 250% and Mythic prisoner appearance by about 300%. The story context for all of this is in story and Godsworn.
Skills and builds
Each class has its own skill tree with active skills and passives. Confirmed examples from player discussion and guides include:
- Warrior — Shield Bash, Iron Will, Devastating Cleave, Guardian Aura; passive Thunderous Roar (chance for Utility skills to not go on cooldown) is prized on DPS builds.
- Mage — Eldritch Bolt, Abyssal Nova, Cosmic Barrier, Arcane Flow; Frost Touch (also available as a Runeword) reduces frost resistance.
- Priest — Totem (shields and buffs), Bone Chill (damage), Flesh Offering, Divine Aegis, Zealous Blessing.
- Archer skills are noted in some guides under the Hunter’s kit, e.g. Piercing Arrow, Nature’s Mend, Rain of Vengeance, Eagle Eye.
Note: class skill names come from community guides and patch notes and may differ from in-game localization.
Recommended team pairings
Guides and players converge on a few strong combinations:
- Warrior + Cleric — a survival core: the Warrior soaks damage while the Cleric heals and buffs.
- Warrior + Mage — the Warrior clusters enemies, the Mage clears them with splash damage.
- All three together — healing, front-line durability and wave clearing in one team.
- Community classic — “Warrior Tank + Totem Priest Support + Bone Chill Priest DPS” is reported to clear content well above the team’s level.
