The core loop

Path of Idle: Old Gods Rising is a Lovecraftian idle RPG built around a simple loop: send your Godsworn into battle, collect loot while combat runs automatically, then use that loot to gear them up and push further.

The official feature list describes it as “full-auto real-time combat” that “frees your hands completely” — you watch loot fill your inventory while the fights happen on their own. It is tailored for dark fantasy fans who want the gear-matching depth of a Diablo-like without heavy manual control.

What you actually do

Between auto-battles, the meaningful decisions sit outside combat:

  • Build teams of three Godsworn, mixing classes and skills for synergy — for example a Warrior tank holding the line while a Cleric heals and a Mage clears waves.
  • Manage gear — equip rarities from common drops up to Mythic items, craft equipment and socket Runewords into slots.
  • Upgrade the town — buildings unlock crafting, research and better equipment.
  • Progress through modes — Expedition, Exploration, Divine Tower, Alternate Dimension and Finality, plus Campaign chapters, Outlands and Doom stages later on.

Classes and team strategy

There are six classes — Cleric, Warrior, Mage, Priest, Hunter and Mercenary — each with its own skill system. Class pairings matter more than individual picks: a Warrior + Cleric core is a popular survival combo, while a Warrior + Mage pairing uses crowd control plus area damage to clear waves. See classes and skills for the full guide.

Where the depth lives

As players have noted, the game’s depth comes from knowing when your build stops working. Early on you can throw almost anything together; later stages, bosses and the harder modes punish uncoordinated teams, which pushes you into gear farming, town progression and more careful skill choices. See gameplay modes and town building for the progression systems that support this.

Player questions

Is Path of Idle: Old Gods Rising a true idle game?

Yes. Combat is full-auto and real-time, so your Godsworn fight on their own while you focus on gearing them, upgrading the town and planning teams.

Do I need to control the battles manually?

No. The game is described by the developer as letting you enjoy top-tier gear matching without tedious controls.

How many characters are in a team?

Teams are built around three Godsworn, though the Warrior class can summon extra support units into battle. You unlock additional adventure slots (a second and third team) as you progress.
